I'm about a third ways finished writing The Hangman Returns. I have remained conscious of the main issues associated with some of the criticism from the Hangman, which was there wasn't enough of the Hangman. Having established the main characters over the last three years, the novel will not have the same issues. I have even added a small love story and I'll try to get as much of an emotional response for each character as I can. I want my audience to care what happens to these characters, because these characters are what the HMU is all about.
First, there is the Hangman, who must return and set things right with his own mortal family before he can decide to join another supernatural war. He does not get along with anyone, good or evil, which makes his decision even harder.
Second, is Jericho Caine, the vampire slayer, and my favorite character. Jericho is dealing with his own issues of whether he belongs amongst the heroes or alone. He must decide if he is a team player or if he should remain a solo act as the one true slayer.
Third, is BA, the Bad Angel. Because he is an angel, he only knows one way of doing things and it conflicts with the other members of the team.
Fourth, is Father Tom Padilla, who has a new love interest. He wants a normal life but doesn't know if it will conflict with his demon hunting and his friendship with Jericho, as they represent the new iteration of the Death Brothers.
Fifth, is Alexander Merryweather, the wizard. He has a new wife and a new life. He wonders if he will lose everything fighting a war that he was never involved in to begin with.
Sixth, is the new character, Susan Taki. She is a wild card and her initial intentions are questioned in the very beginning of the book.
Finally, the demon lord Hangoctuforre tries to return from the Underworld to wage his unholy war and assume dominion over the earth. Along with his sorcerer, Damian Red, the fallen angel named Comet, and scores of vampires and demons, Hangoctuforre challenges our heroes to dare and stop him again. The origin of the Power Rings is brought to light. Secrets are revealed and allegiances are tested in this action packed follow up to The Hangman. Be on the lookout. Until then, you can get caught up on the entire Hangman Universe by reading:
